Culturally Competent Counselling for Asian Canadians

Feeling stuck between two worlds? You’re not alone.

For many Asian Canadians, life often means walking a tightrope between tradition and independence, family expectations and personal dreams. And let’s be honest—“just drink warm water” has its limits.

Whether you’re managing pressure to follow a certain career path, dealing with generational clashes, or feeling like you don’t fully belong in either culture, it can be a lot to carry.

The good news? You don’t have to choose between honouring your heritage and being true to yourself.

As a therapist with both lived experience and academic focus on this intersection, I offer a culturally sensitive space to explore these challenges—without judgement, and without having to explain every cultural reference.

Navigating cultural expectations

During my psychotherapy training, I focused my thesis on Filial Piety and Psychotherapy: Counselling Chinese Canadians. This work allowed me to explore in depth how cultural values—particularly around family obligations—intersect with mental health. Having spent a lot of time exploring this topic, both academically and personally, has given me a strong foundation for understanding the unique challenges many Asian Canadians face when navigating cultural expectations and personal well-being. Especially when saying “no” to your parents feels like a crime against humanity. Let’s just say, I didn’t just study this—I lived it.

What you can explore in therapy

Family + Tradition

Navigate family expectations without losing yourself in the process. It’s possible to hold space for both.

Multigenerational Dynamics

When values clash between generations, we’ll work on communication and boundaries that will help you navigate the tension—without burning bridges.

Acculturation Stress

Struggling to feel at home in both cultures? We’ll help you find your balance, no matter where you are on the cultural spectrum.

Mental Health Stigma

Therapy doesn’t make you “weak” or “broken”—it makes you human. Therapy isn’t taboo—it’s transformative. And yes, we can laugh about it along the way.

Do different. Get different.

You’ve done the whole “suck it up and smile for the aunties” thing. Therapy is a space where you get to breathe, reflect, and grow.

Ready for support that sees the whole you—culture, challenges, and all? Let’s talk.
