How do I know in 15 minutes if the therapist is right for me?

A 15-minute therapy consultation might feel short, but it can reveal a lot about whether a therapist is the right fit for you. The key isn’t to analyze everything but to notice how you feel.

Start by asking yourself, ‘Do I feel comfortable talking to this person?‘ You don’t need to share your whole story, but you should feel at ease enough to speak openly. Pay attention to whether the therapist listens without interrupting or rushing you.

Next, notice their communication style. Do they explain things clearly? Do their responses feel thoughtful and relevant? A good therapist won’t just talk, they’ll help you feel understood.

It’s also okay to ask practical questions: What’s their therapy approach? What experience do they have with concerns like yours? Their answers should feel grounded and reassuring, not overly complicated or vague.

Most importantly, trust your instincts. If something feels off, that matters. And if you feel a small sense of relief, safety, or connection, that’s often a strong sign you’re in the right place.

You don’t need certainty. You just need enough comfort to take the next step.
